Sheep graze in the fields and bird song rivals the sound of rustling wind in the tall trees surrounding the Victorian stone house on the hill which Kate and Phil have just finished renovating. Overlooking the Painswick Valley without another house in sight, their location could not feel more remote.‘Having spent such a happy childhood here and being a country person, it was a blissful return to familiar territory, when my father moved out and we moved in.’ Says Kate, adding, ‘For my husband Phil, who prefers village life, it was more of a challenge.’ Kate picks up one of Fig’s eight- week- old Jack Russell puppies for a cuddle and explains what the house was like when her parents lived there.
