When Lisa Amin, a qualified nanny and her husband Assad, a banker moved into their first married home, their sleek minimal interiors reflect the happy compromise reached by juggling differing preferences.Lisa says when they finally found their ideal; a detached newly renovatedVictorian house with a garden, it was love at first sight. There was just enoughspace in the kitchen to install a spiral wine cellar below the ground. Near to Clapham Common, various shops and good choice of restaurants, the house had been opened up in a unique and original way. The one time narrow Victorian staircase had been widened and reallocated to the back of the property by previous owners, so rather than the usual narrow Victorian corridor hall, the front door opens to a long wide view of the kitchen and the garden beyond. ‘It feels more like a country house, ’ says Lisa, ‘than an urban terrace. it would be difficult to improve on the design of the ground floor or the extension which is lit by no less than four skylights. Even potentially the darkest spot at the far end of the double size sitting room, is filled with light.’
